With less than a month in elections slated for February 8, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finally awarded the party tickets for the Punjab Assembly seats.
The party has also announced tickets for the National Assembly and all three provincial assemblies.
The former ruling party, amid allegations of a lack of a level playing field, has decided to field candidates on all 297 Punjab Assembly seats.
However, several constituencies had been marked ‘pending’, mainly due to a difference of opinion in naming candidates or it may enter into an electoral deal with other political parties.
In all, the naming of candidates in at least 85 constituencies is pending including 11 from Lahore.
For instance, among 13 provincial assembly constituencies in Rawalpindi alone, the party has yet to name its candidates for six constituencies.
However, contrary to the large number of pending nominations in Punjab constituencies, there are only eight constituencies in Sindh, where PTI is unable to name its contesting candidates so far.
