Kate Beckinsale recently opened up about the pain following the loss of her stepfather and penned down a heartfelt note honoring him.

The Underworld actress took to Instagram on Saturday, April 20, and marked her stepfather's birthday with an emotional post as she shared throwback pictures of him celebrating his birthday last year.

“The birthday we didn’t know was your last,” Beckinsale wrote in her caption. “There will be no FaceTime today. In the middle of my night, watching you open your presents. No one received gifts with more joy.”

She continued, “I can’t take my Christmas trees down — They were the last Christmas trees I’ll decorate with you in the world. This birthday/not birthday, Christmas/not Christmas in April.”

“Oh Roy, Oh God I miss you,” Beckinsale added.

In the carousel of photos, her late stepfather can be seen smiling and reading a birthday card at a table.

The last image posted with the carousel was a repost that read, “Due to personal reasons I’ll be screaming.”

Beckinsale announced the death of her stepfather, in a statement on her Instagram stories in January.

She wrote, "It is with great sorrow that the family of film and television director Roy Battersby announces the news of his recent death after a brief period of illness.”

Dailymail previously revealed that the British actress had been taking care of her mother and stepfather.

For those unversed, Roy married Kate’s mother in 1997, after 18 years of Kate’s father Richard Beckinsale's death.

Roy was a successful director, his on-screen hits include Inspector Morse and Cracker. His most recent work was a 2006 episode of A Touch Of Frost.
