Solar and lunar eclipses

Parts of South America will witness an annular solar eclipse on October 2. This type of eclipse is similar to a total solar eclipse, but the moon will be at its farthest point from Earth.

As a result, it won’t be able to completely block the sun, creating a “ring of fire” effect as the sun’s light surrounds the moon’s shadow.

Between September 17 and 18, there will also be a partial lunar eclipse visible over Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America.

During a partial lunar eclipse, Earth moves between the sun and the full moon, but isn’t in perfect alignment.
