Imran demands resignations of NADRA chief, ECP officials for ‘poll cover-up’

ISLAMABAD: A day after an election tribunal ordered re-polling in NA-122 and provincial constituencies within the National Assembly electorate, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman on Sunday demanded swift resignations of all four provincial members of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the NADRA chairman.

Speaking at a press conference after chairing a meeting of the PTI’s central advisory council here, Imran Khan said following the election tribunal’s verdict on NA-122, ECP officials and the NADRA chairman have lost the legal, moral and ethical grounds to hold their posts.

The PTI chief said the mentioned have undoubtedly been involved in the ‘election cover-up’ and serious irregularities, if not rigging, committed on their behest during the 2013 general elections.

He termed alleged rigging in the 2013 polls a criminal negligence, adding that all political parties complained about the poll rigging.

NADRA chairman, through his report, tried to protect the PML-N candidate, said the PTI chief. “Our party has passed a resolution in today’s meeting... NADRA chairman should tender his resignation,” he added.
Khan said that a further course of action against the ECP members would be finalised after consultation with the PTI counsel on Monday.
Commenting on NA-122 verdict, Khan said he did not have any personal grievance against NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who has been de-seated by the tribunal that declared the 2013 poll in the constituency null and void.

“I have serious reservations over prevailing electoral system in the country,” he added.

Imran Khan also announced not to contest by-poll from NA-122, saying another PTI candidate would be fielded to contest the by-election instead.
