Eugenio Derbez has apologized to Selena Gomez after criticizing her Spanish accent in her new movie, Emilia Pérez.

Taking to his TikTok account, the 63-year-old Mexican actor released a statement, calling his comments “careless” and “indefensible."

“Dear Selena, I truly apologize for my careless comments—they are indefensible and go against everything I stand for,” Eugenio penned.

He further wrote, “As Latinos, we should always support one another. There’s no excuse. I was wrong, and I deeply admire your career and your kind heart.

“Emilia Pérez deserves to be celebrated, not diminished by my thoughtless remarks. I’m walking away from this with an important lesson learned,” the comedian continued.

“While I understand if you cannot accept my apology, please know it comes from the heart. With all my love and admiration, Eugenio Derbez,” the Valet star added.

For those unversed, Eugenio criticized Selena for her Spanish accent in Emilia Pérez during an appearance on the latest episode of Hablando de Cine podcast.

“I [watched ‘Emilia Pérez’] with people, and every time she had a scene, we looked at each other to say, ‘Wow, what is this?' he told podcast host Gaby Meza.
