Oprah Winfrey is opening up about her thought process before and after using weight loss drugs.

Winfrey—who dropped 50 pounds with an undisclosed GLP-1, a type 2 diabetes medication—discussed the function and safety of these types of drugs on a recent episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show podcast with guest Dr. Ania Jastreboff.

During the podcast, Winfrey got candid about a realisation about thin people she had once she was on weight loss medication.

"One of the things that I realised the very first time I took a GLP-1 was that all these years I thought that thin people had more willpower,' Winfrey confessed. 'They ate better foods. They were able to stick to it longer. They never had a potato chip."

As Winfrey began the course of medication, she realised that what she thought was "willpower" was an absence of intrusive hunger thoughts — often referred to as 'food noise.'

Ozempic, Wegovy, and other GLP-1 medications can help reduce food noise — which makes people overeat and gain weight— by cutting down cravings and slowing down digestion.

"And then I realised the very first time I took the GLP-1 that, they're not even thinking about it," she noted.

"They're eating when they're hungry and they're stopping when they're full," she said, noting that the pattern doesn't work for people who are obese.

The billionaire show host also recalled being body-shamed in her decades-long career.

"Every week [I was] exploited by the tabloids, anytime any comedian wanted to make fun or make a joke about it, they would make a joke about it. And I accepted it because I thought I deserved it," she explained.

Winfrey only admitted to weight loss drug use in December 2023 after denying the rumours for a long time.
