KARACHI: After a re-polling at six polling stations of the Sindh Assembly constituency Malir PS-128, Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Syed Waqar Hussain Shah has emerged victorious beating his main contender, Muttahida Deeni Mahaz's (MDM) Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqui with a margin of 202 votes, Geo News reported.
According to Returning Officer, cumulatively Shah received 23,827 votes while runner-up Farooqui drew 23,625 in a closely contested election.
Re-polling was carried out on the court orders. As many as 9,500 people were expected to cast ballots in the re-polling.
The main rivals vying for PS-128 seat were Muttahida Qauim Movement (MQM) candidate Syed Waqar Shah and Muttahida Deeni Mahaz's (MDM) candidate Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqui.
Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had announced boycott of the re-polling.
Pakistan Army troops were deployed in and outside the polling stations along with paramilitary Rangers and police.
