Pedro Pascal shared a fiery message about recent political chaos in the United States at the Cannes press conference for Ari Aster’s film Eddington.
On Friday, May 16, the cast of Eddington, including Austin Butler, Emma Stone, and Joaquin Phoenix, attended the event, where they were asked if they were afraid of returning to the US after making a movie that has a strong political message.
Responding to the question, Pascal said, “Fear is the way that they win.”
The 50-year-old Chilean-American actor added, “So, keep telling the stories, keep expressing yourself and keep fighting to be who you are.”
“F**** the people that try to make you scared, you know? And fight back. This is the perfect way to do so in telling stories. And don’t let them win,” the Game of Thrones star quipped.
For those unversed, Eddington, the A24 film, which is set in May 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, is about the MAGA movement.
It shows a fight between a small-town sheriff played by Phoenix and a mayor played by Pascal. The fight causes big problems in the town of Eddington, New Mexico, where people start turning against each other.
Notably, the film, which also includes other actors such as Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward and Clifton Collins Jr., premiered to a five-minute standing ovation on May 16.
It is pertinent to mention that Eddington will hit cinemas across the United States on July 18, 2025.
