Mountainhead star Ramy Youssef has opened up about the story of the film, and cautioned the audiences about his character.
Mountainhead stars Jason Schwartzman, Steve Carell, Youssef, and Cory Michael Smith as billionaires who gather at a mountaintop chalet for an outing.
However, their friendship turns out to be flaky when Smith's Venis shows them his new AI app, which is capable of creating convincing deepfake videos. Each friend has his own goal with the app, and they begin to “fight” over it.
"The more that they tear each other apart, the closer that they get," comedian and actor Youssef said of the shocking camaraderie between his and Smith’s characters. "Because at a certain point, they start to be the only two that are playing this particular game."
He added, "They're rivals, but they are also the only ones who play by these rules and are facing these stakes. They're always bound [together], and I don't think that they're actually emotionally capable of a relationship that could be any deeper than this."
"This battle that we see play out in the house amongst these four guys will probably never end," Youssef explained. "It is just the way they're always going to relate to each other."
While his character acts as the voice of reason in the film, Youssef says he may not be what he seems to be.
"He might be the most dangerous of them," the Ramy actor said.
"Because there's a quality to these types of men where I do think that they actually have legitimately medically diagnosable issues with empathy. And Jeff doesn't have that," the Mo star explained.
Ramy Youssef continued, "He is really aware, and he still chooses the unaware action. So, he could be the most damning character in the whole thing."
