Zoe Saldaña, fresh off her first-ever Academy Award win for Emilia Pérez, brought a touch of humor and heart to the Los Angeles premiere of Elio on June 10 by revealing her Oscar statuette’s unique identity.
When asked where she keeps the award, the 46-year-old actress told People, “We have it in my office — and my Oscar is gender fluid.”
She further described the statuette as “trans” and said it “goes by they/them.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy star won Best Supporting Actress earlier this year for playing a lawyer aiding in a gender-affirming surgery in Emilia Pérez.
Now starring in Pixar’s upcoming film Elio, Saldaña shared that the role earned her “cool points” with her children — Zen and twins Bowie and Cy, who attended the premiere alongside her.
According to People's reports, Saldaña spoke candidly about how her children perceive her fame. While they often remain indifferent, they compared her Oscar win to the “World Cup of acting,” recognizing the significance of the moment.
Moreover, the actress also shared how emotional family movie nights have become, “They always look at me and go, ‘Please don’t cry,’” she laughed, adding that their reactions to emotional scenes show how deeply they're connecting to stories — and to their mom’s work.
