Tom Selleck joins Elizabeth Banks's untitled Apple TV comedy series

Tom Selleck is joining the guest-starring cast of Apple TV's upcoming untitled comedy series led by Elizabeth Banks. 

Details about who he'll play have not been revealed.

The series, from creators Liz Heldens and Matt Ward, follows Heidi, played by Banks, who is fresh off a messy divorce and looking to build a lively second act for herself and her kids, until she finds herself coordinating her father's retirement-community sex life and forms an unlikely alliance with her father's girlfriend's perpetually single son. 

Ted Danson plays Heidi's father, with the ensemble rounded out by Rob Delaney, Katey Sagal, Jared Goldstein and Spencer Moss, along with Hamish Linklater, Michelle Buteau and Simu Liu in recurring roles.

The series is produced for Apple TV by 20th Television, with Heldens and Ward serving as showrunners and executive producers. 

Banks also executive produces through her Brownstone Productions banner alongside Max Handelman and Krissy Wall. 

Jonathan Krisel will direct the pilot and executive produce, with Quinn Haberman executive producing alongside Heldens for Selfish Mermaid, and Jason Winer and Jon Radler executive producing for Small Dog Picture Company.

Selleck's casting comes not long after wrapping his 15-season run on CBS's Blue Bloods, where he starred as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan and also served as an executive producer.

He remains best known for his iconic role as Thomas Magnum on Magnum, P.I., with additional television credits including the Jesse Stone TV movie franchise and a recurring role on Friends. 

His film career spans decades, including notable turns in In & Out, Quigley Down Under and Three Men and a Baby.
