Omid Abtahi, who played Dr. Penn Pershing in The Mandalorian just explained why the villain Empire managed to maintain its grip on the Star Wars galaxy for so long.
Abtahi’s character, Dr. Pershing, was an Imperial scientist working on cloning experiments under both Emperor Palpatine and Moff Gideon.
Speaking at Denver Fan Expo, Abtahi shared his view for the Empire character, saying, “Even though he works for the Empire, what I found interesting about him was that he was, to me, in my mind, science was above all else. The Empire were the people who allowed him to do science. So, to me, I really wanted to make him morally gray.”
According to him, people were willing to turn a blind eye to the Empire’s actions so long as it benefited them personally.
For those unversed, The Mandalorian explores the aftermath of the Empire’s fall and reveals how its hidden influence still affects the galaxy.
Despite being defeated, the remains of the Empire continue to operate in secret, manipulating people and maintaining power through fear, deception, and personal ambition.
