Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal battle has brought up Taylor Swift many times, due to her close friendship with the actress, 38.
Although the pop superstar, 35, has firmly denied having any influence or involvement in the making of the It Ends With Us movie, Lively’s statements have repeatedly mentioned her repeatedly which is why she stays relevant to the case.
In a new court filing, Baldoni’s old texts were recovered, and one of them disclosed him accusing Lively of playing by the “Taylor Swift playbook.”
During his deposition, the Jane the Virgin star, 41, was questioned about his meeting with Lively, where she introduced her conditions after feeling uncomfortable on set.
Following the meeting, Baldoni wrote in his group chat that “[Lively] had the nuclear bomb,” according to documents obtained by Page Six.
“If she doesn’t promote the movie, she can leak that I’m a bad person or that she felt unsafe with me and all the stuff she has on me. Then she’s the victim. It’s the Taylor Swift playbook,” he added in the group, which included Rainn Wilson and Andy Grammer.
The filmmaker seemed to refer to Swift’s reputation of “playing the victim” in the controversies involving her.
This conversation reportedly occurred after the Gossip Girl actress had already filed an HR complaint against Baldoni, and he claimed that due to the larger extent of her success, Lively could manipulate the movie’s success.
While answering Lively’s lawyer, Michael Gottlieb’s questions in his deposition, Baldoni admitted, “I think when you are somebody small in the industry like myself, and you’re dealing with a titan like Ms. Lively and some of the most powerful people in the world, which are her best friends, and you’re in the situation that I was in, I think it’s very reasonable, especially at this point, to be concerned about what’s possible and what’s not.”
