Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry just took their relationship to the diplomatic level.
During their trip to Japan, the new couple joined former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko for lunch. Kishida shared the moment on social media on Wednesday, December 3, posting a photo of the two couples standing in front of a Christmas tree.
In the caption, Kishida confirmed the lunch was more than a simple meet-and-greet. “During his time as prime minister, we met multiple times as fellow leaders, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the ‘Japan-Canada Action Plan’, sweating it out side by side,” he wrote. “I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way.”
In the photo, the 41-year-old pop star kept things chic in a khaki mini skirt and matching jacket, while Trudeau, 53, opted for a grey suit and light-blue shirt.
Trudeau reposted the photo on X, adding, “Great to see you... Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.”
The pair have been in Japan for Perry’s Lifetimes tour, taking in sumo wrestling and enjoying more time with the Kishidas.
The visit comes just months after they first sparked romance rumours in July, following Perry’s split from Orlando Bloom. Though they have made several public appearances together, this marked the first time Trudeau has acknowledged his relationship with Perry on social media.
