Michael B. Jordan didn’t hesitate when asked which pop-culture vampire tops his list.
During an exclusive conversation with People magazine at the Gotham Awards in New York City on December 1, the actor lit up as he recalled a ’90s classic.
Vampire in Brooklyn, Jordan, 38, said, pointing to Eddie Murphy’s unforgettable turn in the 1995 horror-comedy. The film’s trailer famously teases, “The world’s last vampire is about to encounter something infinitely more terrifying than himself: Brooklyn.”
Murphy, now 64, portrayed Maximillian, a suave but sinister undead visitor seeking to make Angela Bassett’s Detective Rita Veder his eternal partner. The movie left a lasting impression on Jordan long before he ever stepped into the genre himself.
Nearly three decades later, Jordan has joined the ranks of on-screen vampires with Sinners, his latest feature generating Oscar buzz.
In the film, he tackles dual roles as twins Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore, two brothers fighting to protect their 1930s hometown from a wave of invading vampires.
The story takes a darker turn as one twin eventually falls victim to a vampire bite and transforms, pushing the brothers’ bond into haunting new territory.
Sinners is now streaming on Max and available for purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV.
