King Charles makes exception to age-old rule for Peter Phillips wedding

King Charles appeared to have granted a special permission to his nephew as major clash of events could have caused an upset.

Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, announced that he would be wedding his fiancée Harriet Sperling at the Costworld Church on June 6th.

It is also the 62nd anniversary of D-Day, which is a poignant date on the royal calendar, and the royal family observes the commemorations for the date.

Moreover, since Peter and Harriet are both divorcees, they needed to sigh off from a local vicar to hold their wedding at the church. Sources close to the couple confirmed to The Sun that the couple has the “vicar’s permission” to wed at All Saints Church, Kemble, near Cirencester.

Divorced couples do not have an automatic right to get married in churches but that rule had been relaxed in 2002.

The news comes 21 years after the Anglican Church had opposed the marriage of Charles and Camilla, who were both divorcees. They had to hold a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall.

Peter started dating the NHS nurse back in 2024. The royals appeared to have taken an immediate liking to her as Harriet appeared at Royal Ascot last year and they all seemed to have a cordial relationship their new family member.
