Stock markets closed for Good Friday holiday: Here’s what investors should knows

U.S. stock markets are shuttered on April 3, 2026, in observance of Good Friday.

The holiday is celebrated by Christians to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

It is a solemn day reflecting on his sacrifice and suffering for the forgiveness of sins, serving as a significant precursor to the resurrection celebrated on Easter Sunday.

The full trading session will remain closed for the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange as per the holiday schedule.

The reopening is scheduled for Monday, April 6.

The bond market is also set to close early, halting trade at noon Eastern Time, as per the Securities Industry and Financial Market Association.

This is not a federal holiday which indicates that all government offices remain open and federal employees will work.

The next stock market closure is on Memorial Day, May 25.

Other upcoming holidays observed by stock market are Juneteenth (June 19), Independence Day (July 3), Labor Day (Sept 7), Thanksgiving (November 26 with an early closure on November 25), and Christmas (December 25 with an early closure on December 24).
