Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s wife, Mia Bieniemy, was hospitalized over the weekend after being shot at the couple’s home in Virginia.
The horrifying news of the shooting rocked the NFL — which is entering its first full week of training camps.
According to an ESPN report, there was a shooting at the couple’s Ashburn, Va., residence on Sunday night.
Loudon County officials said that police were dispatched to the scene after a call came into dispatch regarding a person suffering from serious injury; however, officials didn’t immediately name the injured party.
Later, sources confirmed that it was Mia Bieniemy (age 57) who suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. She is reportedly in good health.
When the shooting took place, Eric Bieniemy wasn’t at the couple’s home. The 56-year-old coach was attending the Kansas City Chiefs’ second day of training camp in St. Joseph, Mo.
In response to the shooting, the Chiefs released a short statement regarding the incident, stating: “We are aware of the situation involving Eric Bieniemy’s family.”
The organization would not make further comments and asked for the family to have their privacy respected.
