Lindsay Clancy's husband Patrick Clancy breaks silence in court

The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three young children, started Monday, July 27, with opening statements and emotional testimony from her ex-husband and the father of the victims, Patrick Clancy.

The 35-year-old mother has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the January 2023 deaths of her children named Cora (5-year-old), Dawson (3-year-old), and Callan (8-month-old).

Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham told jurors Clancy “deliberately and meticulously” planned the murder, noting her online searches depict that she determined how long her husband would be gone.

“This woman who acted intentionally, rationally, and swiftly to accomplish a very specific goal to kill,” Buckingham said.

In a contrasting narrative, defence attorney Kevin Reddington argued Clancy has severe postpartum psychosis and was “walking around absolutely a zombie” due to a cocktail of psychiatric medications prescribed by several doctors.

Reddington said: “She had no motive. She loved her children,” mentioning how she attempted suicide after killings that left her paralysed and in a wheelchair.

Patrick Clancy also described his wife’s struggles after childbirth, including severe anxiety, traumatic deliveries, and mental health treatment. Earlier he said: “I wasn’t married to a monster, I was married to someone who got sick.”

In the case where he is found guilty, Clancy will face a sentence of life imprisonment. In the event where she is found not responsible for her actions, then she will be committed to a mental institution in the state.
