Carlton Johnson II named in Minneapolis shooting suspect: Here's what we know

The Minneapolis shooting incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon has left three people dead and four others injured; among them are three police officers.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, the shooting took place at the Loring Towers apartment building at 15 East Grant Street soon after 4:30 p.m.

The incident prompted a large law enforcement and emergency response after the service was altered to a 911 call that one person had been shot.

The Minneapolis authorities have now released the identity of the main suspect as a 35-year-old, Carlton Johnson II.

The suspect also died of the self-inflicted gunshot.

The officers were dispatched to the site of the incident at around 4:36 p.m.

Multiple media reports indicate that the suspect had a legal history and was facing eviction from the apartment complex.

Johnson reportedly was an occupant on the ninth floor of Loring Towers and had been staying at the complex since March 2025.

The building management, after hearing complaints against Johnson for repeatedly displaying a firearm, has scheduled September 11 for his eviction case.

As per the details of a complaint filed by the management company, Johnson’s tenancy was due to end in June after he reportedly assaulted another resident, openly displayed a firearm, and made death threats.

Johnson also had a prior case involving a sibling from 2018.

He was accused of assaulting the sibling but denied the allegations at the time.

After Johnson pleaded guilty to damaging the property in that case, he was held in jail where he reportedly spent four days before the judge sentenced him to probation.
