How Jack Whitehall's Harry Potter dream ended in one awkward audition

Jack Whitehall has shared a funny story about his first big acting chance, which came when he was still a child.

The comedian once had a chance to audition for the role of Harry Potter.

His father, Michael Whitehall, helped him get a private meeting with the person choosing the actors.

Michael already knew people in the acting world, so he was able to get Jack a special chance to audition.

But Jack was not ready for it.

He admitted that he had never read the Harry Potter book before going to the audition.

When the casting person asked him questions about Harry Potter, Jack tried to answer anyway.

“I was trying to wing it and started talking about Orcs and stuff,” he said.

That did not go very well.

The casting team told him, “that's the wrong book, mate,” and Jack said he “absolutely tanked the audition.”

He did not get the part, and his father was “bitterly disappointed” because he had worked to give Jack the chance.

The role later went to Daniel Radcliffe, who became famous as Harry Potter.

Jack also pointed out that Emma Watson got her chance through the normal school auditions. She went on to play Hermione Granger.

Looking back, Jack said the story showed that having a parent with good connections does not always mean a child will get the part.
