Prince Harry, Meghan's security arrangement sparks fresh fears

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be at an impasse over an important decision that has been kept on the backburner for over months.

Following Harry’s multiple pleas to the UK Home Office to conduct a risk assessment for him and his family, the government body, Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, which determines the security protocol for royals were forced to review.

However, the decision has turned into a “nightmare” as there is anxiety in Westminster, especially after King Charles issued the “private citizen” letter for the Sussexes.

Even though the ministers don’t make the decision, but they fear that they would be receiving the blame for it.

“Nobody wants their name attached to giving Meghan taxpayer-funded protection,” a government source told Rob Shuter. The public won’t care which committee signed off on it. They’ll blame the government.”

They believe that the “angry taxpayer” will not distinguish between the government and RAVEC.

“If public money pays for Meghan’s protection, ministers know they’ll be answering the questions even though they didn’t make the call,” the insider said.

“Nobody wants to interfere with an independent security assessment,” they continued. “But if protection is denied and something happens, ministers will still face questions. Either way, they fear they’ll own the fallout.”

Hence, Meghan’s security arrangements have been turned into a political matter, prolonging the decision, much to the couple’s dismay.
