King Charles reign ‘under threat' just weeks before crucial visit

King Charles’s worries are not yet over with Buckingham Palace scrambling to contain the damage as monarchy comes under fire.

Apart from being on the British throne, Charles is also the Head of the Commonwealth. And while Britain shares cordial relations with most, there are some nations demanding reparations. At first it had just been calls for an action, but now legal route is taken for the matter.

Sources have previously claimed that the Palace would not issue an apology and the UK government is also against it.

Earlier this month, Jamaica filed a historic reparation petition directly to King Charles “to seek guidance on three questions: whether the forced transport of Africans to Jamaica was lawful; whether it constituted a crime against humanity; and whether Britain is under an obligation to provide restitution for slavery and its enduring consequences”.

The Bahamas have supported the decision, despite the fact the King will be conducting an overseas visit to the state.

He has received a brutal warning, with activists demanding that Charles should be removed as head of state as well.

“The link between the British Crown and slavery is undeniable. For King Charles to come to our island and not be prepared to apologise for the wrongs of the past is unacceptable, Dr Niambi Hall Campbell-Dean, chair of the Bahamas National Reparations Committee (BNRC).

“Our message is loud and clear, don’t come here empty handed. The Bahamas stands at a crucial time in our history, 53 years after independence, but the underdevelopment of the country alongside a public health crisis and climate change affecting our everyday way of life, the time for change is now and reparations are a huge part of redirecting our future.”

There has been no official statement from the Palace about the matter and it remains to be seen if it would be addressed before the visit.
