Caitlin Clark-A'ja Wilson heated exchange sparks viral reaction from WNBA broadcasters

A’ja Wilson, the reigning MVP, had a tense moment with the Fever guard Caitlin Clark during the WNBA playoff Game 2 on Tuesday night.

The Clark and Co. put Fever with a 48-43 lead at the end of the first half with an aggressive display of basketball.

The heated exchange happened when around 1:44 minutes were left in the first quarter.

Wilson was inside the Indiana paint, trying a close-range shot.

As she was defended by Myisha Hines-Allen, Clark came up to support her teammate and almost got into a brawl with Wilson, as she held the ball back with both of her hands.

For a brief yet intense moment, Clark and Wilson faced off in a tug-of-war to hold onto the ball.

That led to Clark being awarded a jump ball violation, but the WNBA No. 3 scorer didn’t bother it and went on to whip the home crowd into a frenzy while still holding the ball firmly in her hands.

This led to the announcers weighing in on the change in the Fever’s gameplay since Game 1 against the Aces.

“This is what we wanted to see defensively from the Indiana Fever in this game. Doubling A’ja Wilson, being tough, being physical. Caitlin Clark just comes in and puts the clamps on that one,” commented the broadcaster.

The Fever beat the Aces 99-89 in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series to stay alive in the WNBA playoffs.

The Fever will face a decisive Game 3 on the road as the series tied 1-1 on October 1 at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
