Hailee Steinfeld addresses rumours about ‘Avengers: Doomsday' cameo

Hailee Steinfeld isn't giving away the Marvel universe's secrets just yet.

The Sinners star found herself in the hot seat when Jimmy Fallon asked her about persistent rumours that she could make a cameo in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Instead of delivering the superhero-sized scoop he was hoping for, the Oscar nominee gave a very marvel-ous reply.

“There's a rumour that you might be in Avengers: Doomsday. Just saying. You don't have to say…” The Tonight Show host went straight for the rumor mill.

He then pointed out that when the cast was announced, he didn't spot Steinfeld's name or, as he jokingly put it, “your chair” among the lineup.

The 29-year-old actress and singer, however, dodged the query by suggesting she may be just as much in the dark as everyone else, saying, “Well, I didn't see it either.”

She went on to explain that even her husband had recently asked whether she was appearing in the Marvel blockbuster.

“My husband actually called me the other day and was like, ‘Are you in this?’ And I was like, you know, I actually have no idea,” the Bumblee actress added, leaving Fallon visibly stunned.

“Time will tell,” she added before the host eventually accepted defeat, jokingly admitting, “I tried, I tried, I tried.”

Her carefully vague answer certainly didn't put the rumours to rest. If anything, it adds another layer to the speculation surrounding the film.

Rather than confirming or denying an appearance, Steinfeld left the door firmly open, at least for now.
