Ben Affleck addresses his parents' recent deaths for the first time

Ben Affleck is speaking up about the loss of both his parents earlier this year.

Appearing on Kerry Washington’s Streets You Grew Up On podcast on Wednesday, September 30, the Oscar-winning actor honoured his mom Chris Anne Affleck and dad Timothy Affleck, revealing they died two months apart.

“My parents just died, both of them. In April and June,” Affleck, 54, said. “So I’ve been just like, you know, not just now or anything, but it’s just sort of a big thing.”

Chris Anne died on June 2 at 83 following a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Timothy, 76, also passed away earlier this year, with Ben’s brother Casey Affleck confirming the news earlier this month. Chris and Timothy got divorced in 1984 after a decade of marriage.

Affleck said the losses prompted him to reconsider his upbringing and better understand his mother’s sacrifices. It was only after Chris’ death that the Batman actor realised he “had taken for granted” how much she had done for her children.

“Probably in a way that she wants, in a way I want my children to take me for granted,” Affleck added, referring to his three children — Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Sam, 14 — with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.

The Gone Girl actor has been spending more and more time with his family, including Garner, following his most recent divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
