KARACHI: The University of Karachi has banned the entry of media persons inside the campus without prior permission from the competent authority, citing security concerns.

According to a notification issued here, the University administration has instructed all the faculty members to seek permission before inviting media for the coverage of any event. The entry of media vans has also been restricted without permission.

All the passes issued to the students of morning and evening programs have also been cancelled with the immediate effect while students of evening program are not allowed to enter the campus before 3 PM.

All the hotels and bistros located in the campus were instructed to close down by 10 PM. The University administration has also directed its employees to immediately report to the campus office if they witness any unpleasant or suspicious activity.

It is pertinent to note here that In February 2014, Sindh Home Department had forwarded a letter to the police and Rangers, revealing that a wing of al-Qaeda was working in University of Karachi and distributed literature and CDs in the campus.
