OGRA determines POL prices not govt: Dr Asim

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Abdul Qadir Khanzada on Thursday expressed concern over the recent rise in prices of petroleum products, Geo News reported.

In his address during a National Assembly session, he proposed formation of a formula for determination of POL prices which did not affect the people.

He demanded of the government to take steps for providing relief to the people.

In a reply, Minister for Petroleum Dr. Asim Hussain said: "We would have no objection if the parliament forms a committee to control Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA)."

He said it was OGRA's job to determine prices of petroleum products and not of the government's. "I know the formula used for price determination but the Petroleum Ministry has nothing to do with the revision of prices," he added.

He said no increase was made in the gas tariff for domestic or commercial consumers. Only a nominal increase of 36 paisa was made to the rate of CNG, he added.
