KARACHI: The situation remained tense in the Lee Market area of Lyari as unknown men situated on rooftops opened fire at a bus stop. At least one person was killed while five others were injured.
Violence continued to plague Lyari as earlier on Friday one person was killed and six injured as a result of a grenade attack.
Residents protested violently against the police operation in the area and pelted stones at them. They also attacked security forces with hand grenades and exchanged fire. Police resorted to shelling to disperse the crowd.
Due to protesters’ firing, a man was injured who was shifted to the nearby hospital while another man lost his life in a grenade attack in the vicinity of Eidgah police station of Old City Area. The victim was later identified as Anees.
Three people were also injured near Lyari General Hospital and were shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment.
Residents of the area are bound to stay indoors due to the volatile situation of the area.
Earlier, a man was gunned down in Mera Naka area of Lyari who was later identified as Gul Ayaz. Tension soon gripped the area while severe aerial firing was reported in Lee Market that forced businesses to close down.
Unknown men also blocked the Lyari road by pelting stones and burning tyres.
Transport was suspended amid disturbance while protesters continued clashing with the security forces. Rangers and police cordoned off the area to conduct a search operation.
On the other hand, unknown men opened fire at a car in Korangi 51-C area and killed one man while the other was wounded in the incident.
