MQM, HKSCA round table meeting held
HOUSTON: MQM delegation from Karachi and MQM USA leadership held a special round table meeting with the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association (HKSCA) here to discuss progress since 2009 of HKSCA and projects & programs in the pipe-line.

Ibad Rehman, the Patron of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in North America, Moid Siddiqui (member of provincial assembly Sindh), and Shabbir Qaimikhani (former member provincial assembly Sindh); Central Organizing Committee of MQM Waseem Zaidi, Zafar Kamal, Gul Bhai, & Muhammad Zaheer (Houston); President of HKSCA Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, Former President & HKSCA BOD Member Haroon Shaikh; MQM Houston’s Major Najmi; HKSCA BOD Member Attorney Syed Neiyyar Izfar; Hashmat & Tariq Effendi of House of Charity; Community Activist & HKSCA Cultural Affairs Committee Mariam Issa; HKSCA Hosting Committee M. Amir Khan; Fun Asia Dallas Representative Sameen Farooqui; Community Media Personalities Shamim Syed,Tariq Khan and Muhammad Jamil Siddiqui; and some others participated in the meeting.

Program was conducted by Salman Qadeer Khan, General Secretary of HKSCA.

President of HKSCA Muhammad Saeed Sheikh in his welcome statement briefly gave the highlights about the activities in Health, Education, Community Services, Culture, and Trade. He also informed that important milestone has been achieved with the formation of reciprocate association the Karachi-Houston Sister City Association (KHSCA) in Karachi Pakistan.

Coordinator of the Community Service and Media Coordination Committee of HKSCA ILyas Hasan Choudry highlighted the spearheading efforts of HKSCA in the Pakistan Flood Alliance, and the earlier firefighting equipment donated by previous Houston administration to Karachi through the efforts of the then HKSCA President Haroon Shaikh. He asked it will be good, if the MQM team in Karachi Pakistan can help inform to KHSCA and HKSCA about various Community Service projects in Karachi; and also provide assistance in clearing the container that maybe sent from Houston.

David Godwin, Member BOD and Coordinator of the Education Committee informed about the participation of HKSCA & its members in the US State Department’s Youth Exchange & Study Program (YES); and highlighted the recent MoU signed between HKSCA, the Houston International School and iEarn Pakistan.

Liaison and Coordinator of Health Care Program Matloob Khan highlighted the fact that just like being the energy capitol, Houston also has the largest Medical Center of the world. He informed about the in-flight Tele-Medicine program; and need for implantation support in Karachi for Tele-Medicine Program, where people can get second opinion through live interaction. Good partner of HKSCA in Karachi is the Dow Medical Universities.

Coordinator of the Trade and Commerce Committee Sajjad Sheikh asked about getting the Green Zone and Free Trade Zone around Port Qasim in Karachi. He informed about the MoU signed with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP), and HKSCA. He said there is a crude oil recycling desalination plant project in Karachi from HKSCA, while there are opportunities of bringing the minerals through Hub from Karachi Pakistan to USA.

He added that it will be nice, if MQM delegation can work in getting one stop investment window in Karachi and Houston.
