Karachi: 17 die after consuming poisonous wine

Karachi: At least 17 people have died after consuming poisonous wine in Karachi while many others are admitted at least eight of them in critical condition.

Dr Semin Jamali, incharge emergency department of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center JPMC, confirmed the death of 17 people.

The victims were mainly brought from the slum areas of Landhi and Korangi last night. Eight people are still in critical condition in JPMC.

However, sources said the deaths of poisonous wine in Karachi are in dozens but many victims were not brought in hospitals as their families feared police cases and social stigma.

It may be noted that recently more than two dozen people died in Hyderabad and Tandojam due to the use of poisonous wine. (PPI)
