Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio spoke about fulfilling his dreams at the premiere of "One Battle After Another" after teaming up with the film's director, Paul Thomas Anderson.
DiCaprio admitted in an interview with Esquire magazine his biggest regret in his career was turning down the role of Dirk Diggler in Anderson's "Boogie Nights", choosing instead to shoot "Titanic".
Speaking at the premiere, he told Reuters, "(Anderson's) movies just ruminate in your mind and in your spirit for years and years to come and just wanting to be a part of that and capture some of that magic is just something that I've wanted to do for a long time. So I'm glad we got to do this. This is a movie that he's thought about for over a decade, almost 20 years, he said. So there's a lot of passion. It's a very personal story to him. So this is a perfect fit for us."
Paul Thomas Anderson has been nominated for 11 Oscars for films such as "Magnolia", "There Will Be Blood", "Inherent Vice", "Phantom Thread" and "Licorice Pizza".
The film follows ex-revolutionary Bob Ferguson (DiCaprio) as a former rival, Steven Lockjaw (Sean Penn) resurfaces, bringing old scores to a head, including the kidnap of Ferguson's daughter.
"It's a wild odyssey, man, multi-layered, complex, so many different crazy characters popping up out of nowhere, surprises. You don't know who to trust. And it's done on this massive scale. It's an art house film on a massive scale," said DiCaprio.
Benicio del Toro, who plays Sensei Sergio, a colleague of Ferguson's, had seen the film before the premiere and had nothing but great things to say about the film and its director.
He said, "This is PTA, Paul Thomas Anderson, pitching 100 miles an hour after all these great movies he's done. And I told them when I saw it, I had to say, I'm amazed you are at this stage, you're just like throwing it down. And thank you because it's a motivator, you know, just great stuff. Great stuff. I think you're going to like it."
"One Battle After Another" goes on release in U.S. theaters on September 26.
