The palace has released the brief history and explainer, in their trip down memory lane for the US president Donald Trump, and his first lady Melania Trump, state visit to the UK.
The announcement has been made on the official Instagram account of the Royal Family and features a slideshow of the expected events.
the historical moments with each president, dating back to the very first was shared in the images and reads, “More than a century ago, President Woodrow Wilson made the first official visit to the UK by c American president. The visit, which came a month after the end of the First World War, wa landmark in the UK/US special relationship.”
“Today President Trump and the First Lady, Melania Trump, will arrive at Windsor Castle to begin their own State Visit to the UK. Since then, 13 American presidents have visited the United Kingdom.”
“The late Queen Elizabeth II welcomed President Dwight D. Eisenhower to Balmoral Castle in 1959, and went on to host a further ten US Heads of State during her reign. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy and Mrs Kennedy attended a private dinner at Buckingham Palace with The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh less than five months into Kennedy's presidency.”
Another slideshow also added, “famously, when President Ronald Reagan and Mrs Reagan visited in 1982, The President and The Queen were able to indulge their shared love of horses with a ride in Windsor Home Park.”
It also added a spotlight to President Barack Obama and Mrs Obama’s visit. They “were guests of Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. Following her death in 2022, the former President said of Her Majesty: 'Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty, and she meant a great deal to us. Back when we were just beginning to navigate life as President and First Lady, she welcomed us to the world stage with open arms and extraordinary generosity'."
They even added a nod to Queen Elizabeth II and president Trump by recalling his words for her highness.
He is said to have admitted, ‘Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty's generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was - there was nobody like her!’”
There is also a caption that reads, “President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will arrive in Windsor later today to begin their State Visit.”
“For more than a century, successive monarchs have welcomed American presidents to the United Kingdom, celebrating the special bonds between the UK and the USA, and offering a warm British welcome full of tradition and pageantry.”
