Two more polio cases reported in Pakistan, tally hits 104

CHARSADDA: Two more polio cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, raising the total number of country-wide polio patients to 104 so far in the current year.

According to polio monitoring cell, one-year old Salma from Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was found to be the patient of the crippling disease.

Hafsa, an eight-month infant from Tehsil Bara in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), was also diagnosed with a polio virus.

Meanwhile, it has come to the knowledge of concerned health authorities that parents of both the infant girls had refused administration of polio drops sometime in the past.

The latest addition has pushed the tally of polio cases in Pakistan in 2014 to 104. FATA remains on top with 76 cases followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 18, Sindh 9 and Balochistan 1 case.

Pakistan remains in world focus, as World Health Organization (WHO) a few months back advised it to ensure intake of polio vaccine by the passengers intending to embark on international travel.

Abiding by it, Pakistan had set up polio vaccination booths at all of its airports and many other health facilities across the country.
