SC asks model Ayyan to approach SHC over ECL issue

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday asked model Ayyan Ali to approach the Sindh High Court on her contempt of court case against the Interior Ministry's failure to remove her from the Exit Control List.

Wrapping up the case today, the the apex court bench also directed the high court to resolve the matter immediately.

The model had submitted the contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court against the Federal Ministry of Interior after her name was included in the Exit Control List despite earlier court orders to remove the travel ban placed on her.

During the hearing, Justice Aijaz Afzal asked the applicant to approach the Sindh High Court for taking an appropriate legal discourse.

Latif Khosa, advocated for Ayyan Ali, said that the model is in contract with several international organisations, and failure to show up can lead to a fine of $10 million.

Advocate Khosa further said that the Interior Ministry officials not only deceived him, but also the court by removing her name from the ECL only to place her back on the list.

Despite having confirmed tickets on April 15 and April 20, Ayyan was not allowed to leave the country, he said.

He added that the court orders used by the ministry to justify Ayyan’s inclusion in the ECL have already been suspended by the high court.

Hearing the petitioner's arguments, the apex court ordered the high court to resolve the matter within a week.
