Daesh claims suicide bombings in Kabul, at least 60 killed, 207 wounded

KABUL: At least 60 people were killed and over 200 were injured when two suicide bombers detonated their explosives in the middle of a crowd of protestors in Kabul on Saturday.

Daesh (aka Islamic State) has claimed the attacks in Kabul.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack targeting the minority Shia-Hazara community. Many security personnel were also killed in the attack.

According to details, there were three suicide bombers present in the crowd of protesters, two managed to detonate their explosives while the third was unable to do so.

“The dead and wounded were taken to Istiqlal hospital near the blast site,” a spokesman for the health ministry told AFP.

Ambulances struggled to reach the site of the explosion as authorities had blocked key intersections overnight ahead of Saturday’s protest in a bid to prevent protesters from marching on the presidential palace.

Demonstrators had gathered to demand that a multi-million dollar power line pass through their electricity starved province of Bamiyan – one of the most deprived in Afghanistan and home to the minority Hazaras.
