PBA condemns attacks on media houses

KARACHI: Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) strongly condemns the attack on ARY News offices and a DSNG van of Samaa TV in Karachi.

The PBA, in its statement issued on Monday, expressed serious concerns over the attacks on media outlets and termed these as dangerous threats to the freedom of expression and independent media.

The statement said that media must be allowed to perform its duties as empowered by the constitution of Pakistan. PBA expresses complete solidarity with its member channels ARY News and Samaa News over these acts of violence, it read.

The broadcasters association reiterated its demand for providing security to media houses.

MQM workers resorted to violence on Monday evening after being directed by party chief to surround the offices of Geo News, Samaa and ARY.

At least one person was killed in the violence that ensued in the city yesterday.
