SC ruling a 'blow to legitimacy of judiciary': Bilawal

KARACHI: Pakistan People's Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday termed the Supreme Court's ruling on Imran Khan's petition over Panama Leaks "another blow to the legitimacy of the judiciary".

Earlier today, the Supreme Court Registrar the petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman to probe the Panama Leaks and disqualify Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for allegedly lying in the National Assembly regarding his assets.

The apex court's order said the petition "prima facie appears to be a frivolous petition within the contemplation of… the Supreme Court Rules", and that the petitioner directly invoked "extraordinary jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 184(3)" which it said was not permissible.

In messages posted on social media website Twitter, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called the ruling "a blow to the legitimacy of the judiciary".

The PPP chairman asked whether the reaction would have been the same had an identical petition been filed against a PPP prime minister.
