ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday called on the international community to stop human rights violations by Indian forces in Occupied Kashmir.

He met Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti in the capital earlier today, where he urged world leaders to play their role in putting an end to Indian atrocities in the occupied valley.

The president said during the meeting that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be highlighting the atrocities in Occupied Kashmir at UN General Assembly this week.

Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti condemned the violence in Kashmir on the occasion and said that the atrocities inflicted by Indian armed forces on peaceful demonstrators were unacceptable.

She also slammed the use of pellet guns on civilians protesting peacefully.

Thousands of Kashmiri civilians have been injured, many severely, by the pellets, which have also rendered many blind.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that India must stop the human rights violation in Occupied Kashmir, adding that Pakistan will continue to support Kashmiris’ right of self-determination.

He was talking to the Pakistani community after arriving in New York to lead the Pakistani delegation to the 71st session of the UN General Assembly. The prime minister also said that the issue of Kashmir should be resolved in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
