Anti-polio campaign launched in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad

Pakistan hopes to be removed from the list of polio-endemic countries by 2018 by achieving its goal of no fresh cases for a year.

KARACHI/LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: An anti-polio campaign has begun in several parts of the country including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad on Monday.

A three-day anti-polio campaign began in Lahore with 4300 teams taking part. The drive is expected to vaccinate 1.6 million children.

A six-day anti-polio campaign kicked off in Karachi. A team of 12000 volunteers will vaccinate 2.2 million children in 188 UCs.

A three-day anti-polio campaign began in Islamabad where 600 volunteers are expected to vaccinate 140,000 children.

High security measures have been taken to assure safety of polio teams.
