KARACHI: All-rounder and former captain Shahid Afridi said he deserves a farewell match and has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to give him a match so he can bid goodbye to his fans.

“A farewell match is my right,” said the flambuoyant all-rounder, adding that he has done a lot for Pakistan and deserves a chance to bid farewell to his fans in a befitting manner.

Afridi said that he has talked to PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan about a farewell match.

Afridi has earlier expressed his desire to retire on a high note. According to reports, the PCB had earlier considered including Afridi in the Pakistan squad for the series against West Indies but the board later changed its mind after the all-rounder criticised the board’s policies regarding retiring players.

Chairman PCB executive committee Najam Sethi had said on September 17 the board would give a fitting sendoff to Afridi. PCB officials later said as well they would meet on September 26 to discuss the farewell match for Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal.

Afridi, a veteran of 98 T20Is, had last year announced retirement from ODIs.

Earlier in 2010, he had quit Test cricket, but despite quitting Pakistan’s captaincy from T20s after World T20 this year, he insisted on continuing as a player in the shortest format.
