White House rejects petition to declare Pakistan a sponsor of terrorism

The White House on Tuesday rejected a petition requesting the United States to declare Pakistan a state which sponsors terrorism.

The White House said that the petition which was submitted by two Indian Congress member was omitted due to a forged signature.

Indian-American community in the US had launched a White House petition to designate Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism, days after a bill in this regard was tabled in the US Congress by two lawmakers.

“This petition is important to the people of United States of America, India and many other countries which are continuously affected by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” the petition reads.

It requires at least 100,000 signatures to qualify for a response from the Obama administration.

An initiative of US President Barack Obama “We the People”, the online petition service at the White House website provides a window to American citizens to campaign before the administration on a particular issue.

Pakistani-Americans have also initiated a petition drawing the White House attention to Indian terrorism in Pakistan.The petition created on September 27 has already received thousands of signatures from the Pakistani-American nationals. It needs 53,162 signatures by Oct 27 to get a response from the White House.
