Twitter reacts to Trump's Sweden comment

Donald Trump just cannot amuse you enough. Just when you thought you have heard all the outlandish things coming out of his mouth, he gives you another meme-worthy comment.

Speaking at a rally on Saturday, the US president reiterated his stance on refugees, saying “what happened last night in Sweden” is connected to the country’s policy of taking in large number of refugees.Except the world didn’t know what happened last night in Sweden.

The comment left everyone confused, including the Swedish government as to what event Trump was pointing at.

Former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt wants to know what’s Trump's been smokin’.

Former PM Alexander Stubb reiterates that his country is immigration-friendly.

Dear @realDonaldTrump, Sweden is immigration friendly, international & liberal. One of the most prosperous, richest, safest places on earth.

Some resorted to rational responses.

And then there were the funny ones.

And more.

Clearly, somebody is not pleased.

Reacting to this, Trump said that his comment was based on a television report he had seen.

Fox News, a US channel which is usually cited quiet favourably by Trump, is reported to have run a story on Friday on the alleged migrant-related crime problems in the country.

Speaking on the issue, White House spokesperson told reporters on Sunday that Trump had been referring generally to rising crime, not a specific incident in the Scandinavian country, reports Reuters.

Sweden's embassy in the United States repeated Trump's tweet about having seen the Fox report, and added, "We look forward to informing the US administration about Swedish immigration and integration policies."

Trump has quiet often been criticised for making statements with no evidence and presenting 'alternative facts', a term used by his administration, to the people.
