KARACHI: To make sure not even dirty water goes to waste in a basics deprived city, former chairperson captain of Gwadar Port has devised a system in his house. The mechanism makes water from the bathroom and kitchen reusable.

"Karachi is a water-starved city. Under such circumstances, one can either put the blame on others or take matters in their own hands and do something about it." Former chairperson of Gwadar Port Captain (retd) Anwar Shah told Geo News. "If we do not do something about it, we will end up suffering from high blood pressure."

The mechanism he has devised has three parts. The water used in bathrooms and kitchen of the house is collected in a tank, where it is cleaned of detergents and other such solutions.

Shah uses this to water plants, including those of fig, grapefruits and guava.

A city that only gets 400 million gallons of water out of the required quantity of 110 million gallons, it is pertinent for locals to step up and devise sustainable solutions.

Besides a sustainable system for water management, the green environment of Shah's is also a reflection of his concerns for the ecosystem. Every corner of the premises blooms with flowers or plants of some sort.
