Karachi experiences first monsoon rain of year

KARACHI: The city was lashed with its first monsoonal rainfall of the current season which brought relief from the punishing heat the metropolis was experiencing.

Many parts of the city faced power outages after the rain started. 

K-Electric's high tension line at Bin Qasim-2 tripped after 11pm, plunging half the city in to darkness. 

According to K-Electric, as 400 feeders have tripped and restoration work will begin as soon as rain stops. 

Jinnah International Aiport experienced a power outage but it was restored after a brief time. 

The spokesperson of waterboard informed that because of a power cut, water pumps stopped functioning at Dhabaji Pumping Station. 

However, the K-Electric spokesperson has claimed that power has been restored to water pumping stations including Dhabaji. 

Meanwhile, the highway police asked people to adopt precautionary measures while driving.

According to a Met department official, the city is likely to receive rain during the next 24 hours that would bring down temperatures. 

The Met department said the maximum temperature was expected to range between 36 to 38 degrees centigrade during that period.

The maximum temperature recorded in the city on Wednesday was 38.5 whereas the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.5 degrees Centigrade.

Humidity at the start of day was recorded as 73 percent, whereas it was 61 percent in the evening.
