KARACHI: A third-degree fire, which had started in a high-rise residential building has been doused after hours of firefighting efforts, informed rescue sources.

Initial investigation suggests that the cause of the fire at the Quality Heights apartments in Clifton was due to an electric short-circuit.

Fortunately, no causalities or injuries have been reported yet.

Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has earlier said that the fire department of metropolis does not have sufficient facilities to douse fires in multi-storey buildings.

He pointed out that the firefighters do not even have helmets and added that the fire department needs 10 times more facilities. He has further said that many buildings are being constructed in the city without taking into due consideration fire exits or other safety measures.

“Sindh government has destroyed the institutions in the last eight years,” said Akhtar. People are facing difficulties and Sindh government should be ashamed of this state, he remarked.
