LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan will be remembered as the one cooking up conspiracies against development in the country.

In a statement released here, he asked the PTI chief to stop wasting the time of people by carrying out “political spectacles”.

Shehbaz in another statement said that PTI is full of extortionists and those who have written off loans, asking Imran to first look inward.

The chief minister also criticised the “looters of public money”, in an apparent reference to the Pakistan Peoples Party, for taking a similar stance as PTI.

Shehbaz's comments come after repeated demands by PTI and PPP leaders that the prime minister step down.

Earlier today, opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Khursheed Shah said  that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif needs to decide by tonight to step down from his post.

Shah, speaking to reporters here, stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should choose a new prime minister from the party.

“He [Nawaz] needs to decide by tonight to resign so he can maintain dignity. If he wants to convey his innocence he should. We do not want to get into that debate. But the decision needs to be made tonight before the Supreme Court verdict," Shah said.

The PTI leadership and legal team met on Friday after the Supreme Court announced it had reserved its judgment in the Panama case. PTI chief Imran Khan, who chaired the meeting, reiterated calls for the PM to resign and said the party won't let Nawaz Sharif create any undemocratic crisis in the country.
