SIALKOT: Defence Minister and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Khawaja Asif said on Saturday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made himself accountable and now it’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s turn to come clean.

The defence minister was addressing a press conference in Sialkot, where he criticised Imran Khan in relation to the ongoing case in the Supreme Court regarding his Bani Gala residence’s money trail.

“Imran Khan’s divorced wife is still sending him millions of rupees, how is it possible?,” said Khawaja Asif, adding this is something the PTI chief needs to tell the public .

The same set of rules applies to Imran Khan which is for Nawaz Sharif, he said.

“We will not let Imran Khan escape,” said Khawaja Asif.

The defence minister said that PML-N voters are with Nawaz Sharif and there’s no option for a new PM in near sight. He added that the party does not even imagine the possibility of the disqualification of the premier.

“If there is a difference of opinion among party leaders then it is the beauty of democracy,” said Asif in an indirect reference to allegedly disgruntled Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar.

Earlier, PTI leaders held a press conference where Fawad Chaudhry said that the money trail for Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence was submitted to the court after gathering details from London, adding that the party has now allayed the concerns of rival PML-N.

Earlier today, Imran Khan’s counsel submitted to the Supreme Court details of his flat in London and cricket contracts, defending him in the foreign funding case.

The defence minister is allegedly the top contender for the post of interim PM in case Nawaz Sharif faces disqualification in the Panama case verdict.

According to sources it was decided during Friday's high-level meeting that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif would replace PM Nawaz Sharif if he was disqualified. Khawaja Asif would become the interim prime minister for 45 days until Shehbaz Sharif was elected to a National Assembly seat.
