One traffic policeman martyred, another injured in Karachi attack

Unknown assailants on motorcycle attacked and fled from the scene

KARACHI: One traffic police official was martyred and another injured in a gun attack in the Abul Hasan Isphani road area of the metropolis on Monday evening.  

The traffic officials were performing their duty when they were attacked and were posted at the Gulzar-e-Hijri traffic section. 

Assailants also stole and MP-5 SMG from the traffic officials, said police sources. 

Police sources added that around 10 casings of 9mm were recovered from the site.

"There is a group of 12-14 people who conduct attacks against police personnel. The first team performs reconnaissance on the targets for a few days and the second group executes the attack," said SSP Malir Rao Anwar.

The injured policeman was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. 

A large contingent of police and Sindh Rangers personnel reached the spot after the attack. 

On Friday, three police personnel were martyred when their vehicle was fired upon by unknown assailants in the Korangi area of Karachi.

A 10-year-old child also lost his life in the attack. The policemen were posted at Awami Colony police station.
