Durban Qalandars to have first pick in T20GL draft

KARACHI: The draft to pick players for eight teams participating in the inaugural edition of South Africa’s T20 Global League (T20GL) will be held this weekend.

Durban Qulandars, the sister team of PSL team Lahore Qalandars, will have the first pick in draft, scheduled to be held in Cape Town on August 26 and 27.

The draft features 25 players from Pakistan.

Teams will also pick one international marquee player prior to the players’ draft. International marquee players’ list includes Chris Gayle, Jason Roy, Brendon MccCullum, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Dwyane Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga.

The draft list provided to franchises includes 25 players from Pakistan including Misbah ul Haq and Shahid Afridi. Salman Butt is also included in the list of players drafted for the inaugural Global T20 League.

Other Pakistani players included in the draft are Sami Aslam, Ahmed Shahzad, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Kamran Akmal, Fawad Alam, Azhar Ali, Umar Akmal, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Nawaz, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Abbas, Anwar Ali, Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir, Saeed Ajmal and Yasir Shah.

The inaugural edition of South Africa’s T20 Global League will be held from November 3 to December 16, clashing with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Pakistani players missing from T20GL draft are most likely to be seen in action in BPL, which will also commence in the first week of November.
